Thunderball
The national lottery is now more than a simple weekly number draw of 7 numbers. It has moved on from those long distant days, and is now available in many different forms. The most poplar alternative draw in the national lottery is the Thunderball draw.
The Thunderball draw has a jackpot of up to £250000. This is considerably less than the jackpot on the general UK lotto, but with more chance of winning. In fact, the lottery claims it is the “best chance of winning up to £250000”. It costs the same as the normal national lottery draw, £1, but hopefully you are most likely to win some money!

The Thunderball draw itself is not that different to the main lottery draw. It too is drawn on a Wednesday and a Saturday, and usually follows the main draw of 7 numbers. The difference comes in how you actually win. Rather than having to match 3 numbers or above, the Thunderball is different. To enter, you choose 5 numbers from 1 – 34, and one extra number from 1 – 14, which is known as the Thunderball.
To win the minimum amount on the Thunderball, you only need to match 1 number and the Thunderball. As expected, the amount you win goes up as you match more balls, with a share of a £250000 jackpot for if you actually manage to match all 5 and the Thunderball . A lovely amount, and definitely easier to do than to win the normal national lottery!
To play the Thunderball is exactly the same as to play the Lotto. You simply need to go to a local supplier, purchase a ticket and make sure that right boxes are ticked. As with all lottery games, Camelot have realised that people like to play lottery draws such as the Thunderball on a regular basis – so just fill in the “continuous” box to play for weeks in a row.
The Thunderball lottery was probably first designed to allow Camelot and the national lottery to encourage even more customers to take part the in the lottery. For a while, people weren’t entirely sure what this meant. After all, the UK lotto was so straightforward and simple to do, that any additions with different lottery rules were at first doubted and ignored.
Now, however, the lotto Thunderball is an integral part of the national lottery, and would be sorely missed if it wasn’t a game available for all lottery enthusiasts to play. The differences become apparent when you play the Thunderball lottery and compare it to the normal everyday lottery – and that main difference is that you chances of winning are much higher. The jackpots may be lower, but with the Lotto Thunderball you only have to match 1 number and the eponymous “Thunderball” in order to win the first prize!
The national lottery Thunderball is drawn at the same time as the normal lottery, that being a Saturday and Wednesday night. You can watch the draw on television, or check the results online. As with all Lotto draws, the Lotto Thunderball results are displayed at lottery vendors, such as newsagents and supermarkets. Simple choose your numbers and buy your ticket, to see if you ahve a chance of winning.
The Thunderball is the 6th ball drawn, and is the ball most integral to the Thunderball lottery. You will need to match this ball in order to win at all, and if you don’t match it then your ticket is immediately out of the game. If you do match it, that is where the game starts getting interested – and you can win up to £250000 if you match all the numbers. Not as much as the Lotto, but much easier to win!
